Art Deco Pierre D’Avesn frosted black glass vase, circa 1925.

Moulded with a central band of stylized lions and lionesses, polished and finished with aquamarine staining to highlight the details in contrast.

Signed P. D’AVESN. on the bottom.

There are minor chips on the rim, wear consistent with age and use.

8” (20.3cm) high, 11” (28cm) diameter and weighs approx 10 pounds (4.54 kilograms)

Condition noted.

Known as “the man who worked for almost everyone”.

D’Avesn (1901-1984) started his professional career with René Lalique at the age of 14.    In 1926 he left Lalique and did his own design work, made by Cristallerie de Saint-Remy.  In 1930 he was asked to take over the artistic direction for Daum Freres which he did until 1936.  From 1937 to 1940 he was in management at Verlys.  After 1940 his pieces were made by Cristallerie de Choisy-le-Roi (Sevres).
