The plates are hand painted and moulded in high relief, enhancing the realism of the birds, insects and flowers. The plates are impressed with the George Jones & Sons (Crescent China) distinctive GJ & & Sons trademark, used 1873-1891. All five plates have a painted mark on the bottom 5497-1-.
