Late Victorian silver plate biscuit barrel, from the firm of Mappin Brothers of Regent Street and London Bridge, London, England, circa 1890-1900. Mappin Brothers was amalgamated into Mappin & Webb Ltd, circa 1902/3.
The simple cylinder shape is beautifully decorated with a repeating design of fern leaves on the sides and top, with a pineapple finial, rising from a three footed bead trim base.
Originally for English tea biscuits, this barrel could also house your favourite tea, or provide an elegant solution as to where to put an extra roll of toilet paper in a guest bathroom.
7 1/4” (18.4cm) high, 6 3/4” (17.1cm) diameter at the base.
