Please submit the form below to ask a question about Spode “Buttercup”.

Spode “Buttercup”

Spode “Buttercup”, an old family favourite of wildflowers.

Yellow buttercups, blue forget-me-nots, green leaves and brown borders against a cream coloured background on an earthenware body.

The earliest know version of this pattern was painted on bone china, circa 1885.  The design attributed to Felix Xavier Abraham who worked at Copeland Spode circa 1882-1902 and was the Art Director for a period of time.  The pattern first appeared on earthenware on the Chelsea Wicker shape circa 1896.  The ivory coloured earthenware was known as Spode Imperial, design registered in 1890.
