Aesthetic Movement bachelor tea set, made by Elkington & Co., dated 1893 *.  The silver plating is in good condition, including the gilded interiors of the creamer and open sugar bowl.

The Japanese inspired Aesthetic Movement set is repousse decorated with ornamental flowering bushes in bloom on both sides of all three pieces.  Each piece of the set has a different set of blossoms.  The set also has a stylized monogram of super-imposed letters, possibly “VIH”.

The teapot is 5” (12.7cm) high, 8 3/4” (22.3cm) across the spout to handle.

$595 for the three piece set.

* Elkington & Co. of Birmingham, England was awarded the first British patent for electroplating in 1840.  Elkington developed its own date cypher code, similar to the British sterling silver date letter system.  All three pieces of the tea set are clearly date stamped for 1893.
