Sterling silver sailing trophy / covered box, in the shape of the Liberty Bell, complete with the crack of the original bell. It was made for the American Association of Yokohama (Japan), presented for a sailing trophy on the fourth of July, 1936. The trophy was made by K. Uyeda * and marked 970, a grade of silver finer than sterling silver. The original gold washed interior is in pristine condition. 3 3/4” (9.5cm) high, 4” (10.2cm) diameter at the base. 211.5 grams. $1500.
* K. Uyeda was founded by Kichigoro Uyeda on Ginza Dentsu Street, Tokyo in 1884. The second generation owner, Fujiro Uyeda opened a retail outlet at the Imperial Hotel in 1922, specializing in luxury art goods for foreign visitors. Fine decorative objets such as cloisonné, ivory carvings, Satsuma porcelain and hand made silver tableware were available. Notable customers over the years include Sophia Loren, Charles Heston, Frank Sinatra, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mr. & Mrs. Kissinger. When searched this is found under trophy and trophies. |
