Product CodeWALSTKWHE003
Product NameAntique Detachable Walking Stick
Product Description

An antique walking stick with a detachable metal bottom. In the 1870's - 1890's, this style of walking stick would be for high profile leaders to signify their status in society. Typically used as such on "high days and holidays", they would accomodate the owner to church or a work site to signify the high status of the owner. This one has a plain top. When unscrewed, the stick is walking stick length. The "everyday man" usually had a plain yew stick, approx 5 feet (152.40cm) long with a "Y" or forked handle at the top unto which the thumb was placed. These became known as "thumb sticks".

  • Length assembled, approx 50.5 (50 1/2) inches (128.27cm)
  • Length unassembled: top,  approx 37.75 (37 3/4) inches (95.89cm) and bottom, approx 14.5 (14 1/2) inches (36.83cm)

In the photo of the 3 detachable walking sticks, it is the longest one on the right
