English Art Deco sterling silver tea set, hallmark dated for Sheffield 1929-31. From the prolific silversmithing firm of Mappin & Webb of Sheffield, England. The elegantly simple set is ornamented only with a stylized frieze of shells at the upper rim, on a graduated octagonal form. The pieces and tray are all raised on stylized claw feet and have hardwood handles and finials. The set consists of a teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl all dated 1930, the hot water pot dated 1931 and the matching tea tray dated 1929. The set is in pristine condition and is without monograms or presentation engravings. It is very special and uncommon to find a set with the matched tray! The teapot is 6” (15.3cm) high at the handle. The hot water pot is 8” (20.3cm)high at the handle. The tray is 24 1/2” (62.3cm) by 14 1/8” (36cm) including the handles. 4644.0 grams total weight. $23,225 for the 5 piece set.
