Art Deco seal top sterling silver coffee spoons, in their original presentation box.  English hallmarks for Birmingham 1938, from the silversmith firm of William Devenport & Co. in business circa 1893-1948 with  various addresses in Birmingham, England.  The spoons are in excellent condition and without monograms.  The original box is missing part of the clasp, otherwise in very good condition.

The spoons are 4 1/4” (10.8cm) long.

The box is 6 3/8” (16.2cm) by 5 3/8” (13.7cm), 1” (2.5cm) high.

* Seal top spoons were popular in England in the 16th and 17th centuries.  They would be “one of” spoons that the owner would carry for personal use, approximately 6 to 7” long with a pear shaped bowl.  The flat top was a place for a monogram on a disc shaped like a seal, hence the name.  This simplified design of a seal top spoon had a resurgence in popularity in the early 20th century, especially in Art Deco aesthetics.
