Product Description | |
Art Nouveau brass and copper candlesticks, made by the sculptor Paul-Louis Brindeau de Jarny of France, circa 1900. Signed P. Brindeau on the bottom of both candlesticks. Brindeau de Jarny (1858-1939) was a jeweller, designer and craftsman, known for his work in wrought iron and copper. His work was accomplished solo as he shunned the idea of larger studios where an artist designed the concept and assistants did the actual workmanship. At the 1900 World Fair in Paris a collection of his work was purchased by the Arts & Crafts Museum of Zurich, securing his reputation. The candlesticks are formed of three brass leaves and stems bound together by copper binding at the top and bottom, holding a water lily bud inspired candle receptacle. Art Nouveau elegance at its most organic! 11 1/2” (29.2cm) high, 6 3/4” (17.2cm) diameter at the base. $4500 for the pair. |
