French Art Deco Earthenware Dog by Louis Auguste Dage (1885-1963)

Product Details

French Art Deco earthenware dog with saddlebags by Louis Auguste Dage (1885-1963).  The saddle on this charming Terrier puppy lifts up to reveal an internal box.  

The pup is painted with green eyes and black detailing on a mottled mocha colour ground with blue saddlebags.  Signed L. Dage on the underneath.

10” (25.4cm) by 6 3/4” (17.1cm), 7” (17.8cm) high.

Dage started his ceramic career at Five-Lilles and went into train in Beauvais where the Greber and Auguste Delaherche factory was located.

In 1920 he set up his own art pottery studio in Anthony (Paris) with Jean de La Fontinelle.

In 1924 Dave won the prestigious Meilleur Ouvrier de France award in the ceramics category, given to recognize excellence in workmanship.

In the early 1930s he worked on the decoration of the ocean liner Le Normandie.
