Kasvimaalla Vase, Designed by Pertti Santalahti for Humppila Glass, Finland

Product Details

Finnish art glass “Iceberg” bowl designed by Pertti Santalahti * for Humppila Glass **.  The vase is from the Kasvimaalla series, made circa 1978-85.  The series was made in all clear glass and clear with green, blue or as in this case, brown.  The original Humppila Glass company paper label is intact.

7½” (19 cm) high, 10” (25.4 cm) diameter.

* Pertti Juhani Santalahti (1941-2015) was a Finnish designer born in Helsinki.  He studied sculpture at the Arts and Crafts Institute, graduating in 1962.  He was a product developer at the Humppila Glass factory 1971-81 and from 1974 on was the artistic director of the factory.  Santalahti’s work is represented in many collections, including thr City of Helsinki Art Collection, the Finnish Glass Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tampere Finland, the Kunstammlungen der Veste in Coburg Germany and the British Crafts Center in London, UK.

** Humppila Glass was founded in Finland in 1952, by three brothers, Jonni, Martii and Olavi Helander, all former glass blowers at Nuutajarvi.
