Herend Rothschild Bird Vase

Herend porcelain Rothschild Bird pattern vase/cachepot circa 1960s.  The oval flared shape vase rises from gilded lion paw feet on a rectangular base, hand painted with songbirds and multiple butterflies.  The bird themed pattern originated in the 1850s depicting 12 different pairs of songbirds and was renamed after the Rothschild family in 1861 in recognition of their love of the pattern.  Identified on the bottom:  6455 RO.  6455 is the shape number and RO is the code for the pattern Rothschild Bird.

Herend porcelain was established in 1826 in Hungary and still producing luxury hand painted and gilded porcelain.

5 3/4” (14.6cm) high, 5 1/2” (14cm) by 8 7/8” (22.5cm) at the rim,

5 1/4” (13.4cm) by 3 1/2” (8.9cm) at the base.
