* Palissy Ware is a 19th century term coined for the revival of the style of ceramics made by the French potter Bernard Palissy (circa 1510-90).  Palissy referred to his own work as “rustique” (in the rustic style) so it is also referred to as rusticware.  Through the 19th century this style of decorative pottery was made in England, France and Portugal, often unmarked.
