Art Nouveau Doulton Burslem earthenware umbrella stand. Transfer ware decorated with groupings of field flowers in ochre, browns and blue in a characteristically asymmetrical Art Nouveau flourish.
This combination of the Doulton Burslem trademark and England was used between 1891-1901. Doulton became Royal Doulton in 1902. The pattern “Grosvenor”, # D617 was registered in 1900, dating this piece specifically to the short period of 1900/01.
The umbrella stand is of substantial weight and the wide bottom provides for a sturdy place to store any number of canes and umbrellas.
Minor crazing to the surface, wear consistent with age and use.
