Stunning mid-century modern Wedgwood creamware bowl, designed by Norman Wilson in the late 1950s. The black and white fluted pattern has a matt glaze; one of the new satin finishes that became popular on studio wares.
Wilson (1902-1985) started his career at Wedgwood’s Etruria factory in 1927, served in WWII and returned to be the production director at Barlaston in 1946. From 1961 until his retirement in 1963 he served as joint managing director with Frederick Maitland Wright.
