Wedgwood Rosso Antico Pitcher, circa 1810-20

Product Details

Antique Wedgwood “Rosso Antico” pitcher, circa 1810-20.  Wedgwood started producing Rosso Antico as part of their experimentation with red ware in 1765.  The unglazed red stoneware body was initially known as “old red” (russo antico is Italian for ancient red).  In 1810 Wedgwood started decorating the old red items with brightly enamelled floral sprays, as is the case in this example.  The pitcher is in good condition, with very minor scuff marks and a very small chip on the underside of the rim.  Wear consistent with age and use.

7 1/8” (18.1cm) high, 5” (12.7cm) diameter.
