Elkington & Co. silver plate bottle coasters, dated 1843.  These wonderful open basket form bottle coasters have a grape and vine rim.  The hardwood bases are emblazoned with a family crest, possibly a variation of the Armstrong family.  They are in superb condition!

6 1/2” (16.5cm) diameter, 2 1/4” (5.7cm) high.

$1695 for the pair.

Elkington & Co. of Birmingham, England was awarded the first British patent for electroplating in 1840.  

Elkington developed its own date cypher code, similar to a British sterling silver date letter system.  These coasters are clearly marked for 1843.
