Cut Crystal Goblet Commemorating The 1939 Royal Visit To The USA

Cut and etched crystal goblet commemorating the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to the United States.  This was the first visit of a reigning British monarch to the USA.

The goblet has an inscription along the rim that reads:

“The First Visit Of Britain’s Reigning Sovereign To The United States Of America.”

over three etched panels:

GR VI ER under a crown, the Royal cypher of King George VI.

an eagle perched on a laurel wreath with depictions of the flags of Great Britain and the United States and two hands depicted in a handshake over 1939, (the year) and waves (symbolizing the ocean between the nations) within a wreath tied with a bow at the top, symbolizing the friendship of the two nations. 

The bowl of the goblet sits on a substantial facetted cut stem, rising from a simple flared foot.

7 5/8” (19.4cm) high, 3 3/4” (9.5cm) diameter at the rim.
