Oertel & Co. Gold Rimmed Crystal

Oertel & Co. acid etched gold rimmed wine glasses *.  The pattern is similar to “Judith Gold”, but with a wider band of a stylized flower and vine motif, on a hexagonal cut body.  Made in Germany, circa 1960.  Some of the glasses have the etched Oertel signature clearly visible on the bottom.

6 coupe champagne glasses, 3 1/2” high, 3 3/8” diameter at the rim,

*Oertel crystal was established by Johannes Christian Oertel in 1869 in North Bohemia, Austro-Hungarian empire.  Oertel Kristallglas (crystal) is a multi-generational family owned and run business.  The company moved to Stuttgart, Germany in 1946, relocating back to its origins (in present day Czech Republic) at the end of the 20th century.  

Oertel has taken part of several world fairs over the years, including Liege 1905, Ghent 1913, Rio de Janeiro 1922, Paris 1925 and New York 1929.  From the 1960s Oertel has been commissioned to provide stemware for the royal houses of Libya, Malaysia and Persia.
