Jugendstil 800 Fine Silver & Crystal Claret Jugs

Product Details

Jugendstil * crystal and silver claret jugs, Germany, early 20th century.  The cut crystal has a stylized wheat sheaf pattern that circles the entire jug.  The silver mounts have the impressed marks of a crescent moon and crown 800; the German state mark for 800 Fine Silver, in use since 1888.  The maker’s mark WTB is that of Wilhelm T. Binder, established in 1868 in Schwabisch Gmund, in the german state of Baden-Wurttemberg.

The four digit number 7966 is Binder’s design pattern number.

The lids are engraved with a stylized “G”.

8 3/4” (22.2cm) high, 4 1/2” (11.5cm) diameter at the widest.

* Jugendstil is the German form of Art Nouveau, in fashion circa 1895-1910.
