Matthew Boulton Sheffield Plate Champagne Coolers

Product Details

Matthew Boulton Sheffield Plate champagne coolers, decorated with a grape and vine rim.  Made in Sheffield, England, early 19th century.  The copper base metal is showing; what Sheffield enthusiasts refer to as “bleeding”.

11” (28cm) high, 12 1/4” (31.6cm) diameter.

$2400 for the pair.

Matthew Boulton (1728-1809) was an English inventor, engineer and silversmith.  Boulton’s working career started with his father’s toy making business, evolving over time to include the manufacture of steam engines, silversmithing, Sheffield plate and coinage.  

The Boulton twin sun trademark on Sheffield plate continued in use by the Matthew Boulton Plate Company until 1832.
