Victorian silver plate biscuit barrel, English, circa 1890.

The highly realistic and tactile strawberry finial is the first thing of notice on this charming biscuit barrel, which is beautifully engraved with vertical motifs of palmette leaves, between two bands of Greek Key borders, with a large oval panel suitable for engraving.  The attached base is further decorated with pierced designs and more Greek Key bands on the bracket feet. 

Originally for English tea biscuits, this barrel could also house your favourite tea, or provide an elegant solution as to where to put an extra roll of toilet paper in a guest bathroom.
