Alabaster bookends with busts of Beatrice and Dante, circa 1920s.  

Inspired by Dante Alighieri’s narrative poem “Divine Comedy”, an allegorical story about his soul’s journey towards God, completed in 1320.  Beatrice is Dante’s guide through the end of Purgatory and most of Paradise.
