Shrubsole Sterling Silver Candlesticks

A very fine pair of sterling silver candlesticks, from S.J. Shrubsole of London and New York *, mid-20th century.  The candlesticks are made in the manner of William & Mary cast silver candlesticks from the 1690s.  Important period design features include the lobed column and gadrooned rim, with a deep well on the base to contain melted wax run off.

7” (17.8cm) high, 4 1/4” (10.8cm) square at the base.

* S.J. Shrubsole was founded in London in 1912 by Sydney James Shrubsole.  His son, Eric N. Shrubsole expanded the business to New York in December of 1936.  Shrubsole remains in business to this day, specializing in English and American antique and quality reproduction silver.
