Lecourtier & Moreau Bronze Huntsman

Product Details

Hippolyte Moreau (French, 1832-1927) and Prosper Lecourtier (French, 1851-1924), titled:  “Piqueur Au Relais” (Picker At The Relay).

Bronze figural group of a finely dressed French huntsman of the Louis XV period, accompanied by two hounds.  The figure sculpted with a feathered tricorn hat, fastened three quarter length jacket, knee high boots and a sword at his left side.   His right hand grips a hunting horn and his left is holding onto the roped leads of his two canine companions.

The naturalistic base inscribed Lecourtier Hip Moreau. *

20 3/4” (52.7cm) high, 9” (22.9cm) diameter at the base.

* Hippolyte Moreau was known primarily for sculpting people and Prosper Lecourtier’s forte was sculpting animals, primarily dogs and deer.  This artistic pairing exhibits their skills masterfully in this hunt scene.
