Rene-Paul Marquet Bronze

Product Details

A finely detailed gilt bronze of a late 18th century Dandy, by the French sculptor Rene-Paul Marquet (1875-1939), possibly intended as a representation of the literary character “The Scarlet Pimpernel”.  The gilded bronze figure is intricately patterned to express the texture of the coat, with his face and hands made of hand carved ivory and the original walking stick is intact.

The figure is clearly impressed with his own sartorial splendour!

The figure is mounted on a three sided stepped green onyx base.

8 1/4” (21cm) high, 2 3/4” (7cm) by 2 1/2” (6.4cm) at the base.
