Sarreguemines Majolica Strawberry Dessert Service

Majolica dessert service made by Sarreguemines Pottery of France, circa 1875-1890.  The set is decorated with alternating clusters of strawberry blossoms and strawberries, in raised and painted detail against a basket style background.  All pieces of the set have the impressed marks:  SARREGUEMINES and MAJOLICA.

The extensive set has 12 plates and 6 serving pieces.  

One of the large pedestal dishes has been repaired at the base and one of the short pedestal dishes has a hairline crack.  Otherwise, the set is in good condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use.  

The set is comprised of:

12 plates are 8” (20.3cm) diameter

 2 large pedestal dishes are 9 1/4” (23.5cm) diameter, 4 1/2” (11.4cm) high

 2 short pedestal dishes are 8 5/8” (22cm) diameter, 1 1/4” (3.2cm) high

 2 rectangular dishes are 12 1/4” (31.1cm) by 9 3/4” (24.8cm)
