George IV Sterling Silver John & Thomas Settle Tea Set Dated 1823/4

Product Details

George IV three piece sterling tea set, English hallmarks for Sheffield 1823/24, made by John & Thomas Settle.  The Settle’s work is from a short period of time, circa 1814-25.

The set is decorated with a band of repousse work, elaborately cast birds head spout and handle, on a simple pedestal foot.  The teapot is fitted with a flush hinged cover ornamented with a continuation of the repousse motif and a floral finial.  

The cream jug and sugar bowl interiors have the original gilding.  The set is without monograms or presentation engravings.

The set consists of a teapot, hallmarked for 1824 and the cream jug and open sugar bowl, both hallmarked for 1823.

The teapot is 6 1/2” (16.5cm) high at the finial.
