Hand Painted Tillowitz / Limoges Tea Set

Product Details

Art Deco porcelain tea set, made by RS Tillowitz and B & Co Limoges, circa 1920-30. The set is hand painted in mint green, with an opalescent interior in the teacups and gilded handles, rims and pedestals.

The 6 pedestal teacups and saucers are trademarked RS Tillowitz, of Tillowitz, Germany (Reinhold Schlegelmilch, in present day Tulowise, Poland) and signed “S”.

The plates are trademarked B & Co. (L. Bernardaud & Company) Limoges France and signed “S”.

The set would have been purchased as blanks in North America and hand painted to match by “S”.  In the early 20th century china painting was considered a lady’s hobby, much like embroidery and petit point of one and two generations earlier.

The teacup is 2 1/2” (6.4cm) high, 3 3/8” (8.5cm) diameter.

The saucer is 5 1/2” (14cm) diameter.

6 plates 5 3/4” (14.6cm) diameter, one has a small chip.

6 plates 7 1/4” (18.4cm) diameter.

The Tillowitz/Limoges set is $295, condition noted.

The teapot is Adams Calyx Ware, “Ming Jade” pattern, decorated with multiple blooming flowers against a celadon green ground.

The teapot is 6 3/4” (17.2cm) high.

$195.
