Triton Motif 930 Fine Silver Coffee Set, made by Kremos

Product Details

A significant silver coffee set, made in 930 Fine Silver by Kremos *, representing the Greek God Triton.  In Greek mythology, Triton was a sea god with the torso of a man and the tail of a fish.  He is often depicted blowing into a triton trumpet shell; as in this example, the coffee pot spout is Triton blowing into the shell.

The monumental three piece set features amphora inspired vessels raised on stylized dolphin pedestal bases.  All three pieces of the set have a wide frieze of frolicking putti above a garland tied above a blank roundel (on both sides) suitable for a monogram or presentation engraving.  The figural handles are also stylized dolphins, with the lower part representing fish scale tails.

Impressed stamps on the sides of the base on all three pieces:

the crescent moon and crown German state mark used since 1888, 930 (the grade of silver) and KREMOS.

The coffee pot is 13 1/4” (33.6cm) high at the handle.

The creamer is 9 1/4” (23.5cm) high at the handle.

The sugar bowl is 7 1/4” (18.4cm) high so the top of the finial.

2581.5 grams total weight.

$16,000 for the three piece set.

* Kremos is a silversmith company established in 1881 in Naples by Greek immigrants, Demetrios Kremos and Soltirios Bulgari.  By 1884 they had relocated to Rome and the partnership ended, with Bulgari going out on his own.

This coffee set has German state silver marks, indicating that it was either retailed or made in Germany.
