Victorian Martin Hall & Co. Sterling Silver Tea & Coffee Set, Sheffield 1858

Product Details

Victorian sterling silver tea and coffee set, English hallmarks for Sheffield 1858.  This four piece set is grand in size and opulently decorated, made by Martin Hall & Co. of Shrewsbury Works, Sheffield, England.  The exuberant mid-Victorian tea set incorporates repousse work, vertical fluting with raised acanthus leaves, eagle head spouts and scrolled bracket feet.  Two of the most interesting design features are the Chinese figural finials (different, but with fully matching hallmarks) and the panels of engraved florals against a stippled background.  The cream jug and sugar bowl have gold washed interiors.  The set is fully hallmarked with matching date and maker on all four pieces.  The set is in very fine condition.

The teapot is 9 1/2” (24.1cm) high.

The coffee pot is 11 3/4” (30cm) high.

2858.7 grams total weight.

*Martin Hall & Co. was established by Henry Wilkinson and John Roberts in 1820, evolving through multiple partnerships to be Martin Hall & Co. by 1854 (Richard Martin and Joshua Hall), producing fine silver tableware into the 1960s.
