Victorian Sterling Silver Bachelor Tea Set, Josiah Williams & Co., London 1897-99

Spectacular Victorian sterling silver bachelor tea set, hallmarked London 1897-99, in the original presentation box.  From the silversmiths Josiah Williams & Co. (George Maudsley Jackson & David Landsborough Fullerton of Three Queens, Bristol and Thavies Inn, London EC, England.

The four piece set includes the teapot, cream jug, sugar bowl and matching sugar tongs.  The original gold washed interiors of the creamer, sugar bowl and teapot are bright.

The set was retailed by Fattorini & Sons of Bradford.  Fattorini was a family of jewellers, immigrants from Italy to Leeds, Yorkshire, England early in the 19th century.  Antonio Fattorini opened a shop in Harrogate in 1831 and opening his shop in Bradford with two of his sons in the 1850s.  The business still exists today, managed by the 6th generation of the family.

The teapot is 5 1/2” high.

The box is 11 3/4” wide, 11” deep, 5” high.

* A bachelor tea set is a smaller version of a full size tea set, intended for the use of one person.  In the Victorian era it was a charming “must have” for well appointed households.  This teapot holds exactly 2 cups of fluid, enough for one refill.
