William IV Sterling Silver Edward Barnard & Sons Tea Set Dated 1833

Product Details

William IV three piece sterling tea set, English hallmarks for London 1833, made by Edward Barnard & Sons (Edward, Edward Jr., John & William Barnard).  This trademark was first used in 1829. *

The set is exuberantly decorated with raised floral and foliate flourishes and scrolled foliate feet.  The cream jug and sugar bowl interiors have the original gilding.  The set is without monograms or presentation engravings.

The set consists of a teapot, cream jug and open sugar bowl.

There is very minor wear, consistent with age and use.

The teapot is 6 1/2” (16.5cm) high at the handle.

1797.2 grams total weight.

$9500 for the three piece set.

 

* The firm originated with Robert Nelme, circa 1680 and evolved through partnerships to include members of other families of illustrious silversmiths such as the Chawner family in the later hall of the 18th century and many generations of the Barnard family throughout the 19th century.  The company existed until 2003.
