Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Two-Handled Bowl, Design # 456B

Product Details

Mid-Century Modern, Georg Jensen sterling silver two-handled bowl, design # 456B. The bowl was designed as the sugar bowl for a tea and coffee service, # 456, by Harald Nielsen (1892-1977) for George Jensen, produced post 1945.  Nielsen was a younger brother of Jensen’s 3rd wife, joining the silver firm in 1909. Through the 1920s and 30s he was Jensen’s leading designer and closest colleague.  In 1958 Nielsen became a director of the company and remained an artistic consultant until 1967.

The simple body has a hammered finish and understated leaf-capped vine handle.

An alternative use for the bowl would be a two-handled Christening cup.

2 1/2” (6.4cm) high, 3 3/8” (8.5cm) diameter at the rim.
