Antique Dutch Silver Tea Caddy With English Import Marks

Product Details

Antique sterling silver tea caddy, attributed to the Netherlands, 19th century.  The tea caddy has the English import mark of the capital letter “F” in a circle signifying that the item is “Foreign” (the F was first used in 1867) and Queen Victoria’s profile was used in hallmarking silver until 1890, dating the caddy’s import to England between 1867 and 1890.

The charming tea caddy is decorated front and back with cherubs embracing amongst a floral backdrop.  The side panels feature two lovebirds flying amongst the elaborate Rococo inspired scrolling background.

5 1/8” (13cm) high, 2 1/2” (6.4cm) by 1 1/2” (3.8cm).
