William IV Sterling Silver Tea-Picker Design Tea Caddy, Dublin 1836

Irish made William IV era sterling silver tea caddy, Tea-Picker Design.  Hallmarked Dublin 1836, made by the silversmith Robert W. Smith, whose work dates circa 1831-1858.

This unique tea caddy is a variation of a design by the renowned 18th century silversmith Paul de Lamerie.  The “Tea-Picker” design depicts Chinese tea pickers, pagodas, scrolls, shells, lion masks and stylized tea leaves, combining elements of Chinoiserie and Rococo.
