Sterling Silver Governor General of Canada, Earl of Bessborough Curling Trophy, Hamilton Thistle Club, Dated 1933

Product Details

Classic Grecian urn inspired sterling silver curling trophy, from the Hamilton Thistle Club *, presented in 1933.  English hallmarks for Sheffield 1930, made by prolific silversmiths Mappin & Webb of Royal Cutlery Works, Norfolk Street, Sheffield.

The trophy is engraved on the front:

** a 5 point earl’s coronet over “B”, the Earl of Bessborough, Governor General of Canada, with two columns of names on either side,

** The 14th Governor General of Canada (1931-35) was the 9th Earl of Bessborough, Vere Brabazon Ponsonby (1880-1956).
