Toronto Canoe Club Sterling Silver Trophy Presented 1904

Product Details

Sterling silver trophy cup, presented to the Toronto Canoe Club in 1904, made by Roden Brothers of Toronto.  The trophy cup is an elegantly simple pedestal bowl with a bead trim at the rim and shoulder, with graceful “S” scroll handles.  The original gold washed interior is intact.

The cup is engraved on the front:

and engraved on the reverse:

* Toronto Canoe Club was founded in 1880, with the name evolving to The Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club in 1939.  Originally located in Toronto’s inner harbour, now located in Toronto’s Humber Bay.  

** Shea’s Theatre was part of an American owned theatre company chain that housed traveling orchestras and Vaudeville type shows.  The theatre opened in 1891 at 91-93 Yonge Street, destroyed by fire in 1905.  There is a Toronto Historical Plaque at the corner of Yonge St. and Adelaide St. giving the full history of the theatre.
