Meiji Period Satsuma Figural Vases

Product Details

Meiji period Satsuma figural vases, Japan, 1868-1912.  This unusual design is of ovoid shaped vases, decorated in the “One Thousand Faces” motif, each mounted atop a heavily gilded recumbent elephant with a decorated saddle cloth.

The signed bases are worn and difficult to read; attributed to Yasni Zo, Shimazu Mon from research of similar Satsuma items.

This unique pair of vases do show wear to the painting and gilding; wear consistent with age and use.

4 1/2” (11.4cm) by 3” (7.6cm), 5” (12.7cm) high.

$800 for the pair.
