* Strombergshyttan glassworks is synonymous with Scandinavian mid-century glass.  Founded in 1876 as Lindefors, becoming Strombergshyttan in 1933 under the direction of husband and wife designers and glassblowers, Edvard Stromberg (1872-1946) and Gerda (nee Svensson) Stromberg (1879-1960).  Edvard had previously worked at Kosta, Orrefors and Eda glassworks and brought a team of skilled glassblowers with him.

After Edvard’s death, the management of the glassworks was taken over by his son Erik and eventually by Erik’s wife Asta (nee Fernwall) Stromberg (1916-2011), an important glass designer in her own right.  Asta’s work covered the late 1940s through the 1970s.

The company remained in the Stromberg family until bought by Orrefors in 1976.

Strombergshyttan glass is represented in many museums world wide, including:

The Met in New York, New York
