Wilhelm Kralik Art Nouveau Glass Inkwell

Wilhelm Kralik * Art Nouveau / Jugendstil glass inkwell, circa 1900-05.   The inkwell has an iridescent finish over green glass with lion paws in the corners.  The inkwell was blown into a gilt metal frame decorated with a stylized floral frieze, with a bronze lion’s head hinged cover.  The cover has impressed letters:  D.R.G.M.  (Deutsches Reichs Gebrauchmuster), German for a copyright / patent protection mark of a shorter time period, usually 6 to 15 years.  This style of patent mark was first used in 1891.

5 1/2” (14cm) by 3 3/4” (9.5cm), 2 3/4” (7cm) high.

* Adolfshutte Glassworks was established in Bohemian in 1815.  It was a multi-generational family business, with the business name evolving into Wilhelm Kralik Sohne (Sons) by 1877.  Kralik was known for creating high quality art glass in the Art Nouveau / Jugendstil time period; producing glass objets until the beginning of WWII.
