Dominick & Haff Mazarin / Birks Gadroon Pattern Punch Ladle

Product Details

Antique sterling silver punch ladle, “Mazarin / Gadroon” pattern made by Dominick & Haff * and retailed by Birks, Canada, circa 1892-1914.  The ladle is trademarked with the company logo for Dominick & Haff and Birks.  D & H registered this pattern, known as “Mazarin” in 1892.  Henry Birks & Sons was established as a retail jeweller in Montreal, Canada in 1879.  Birks originally had silver flatware made for them to retail, both from American and British companies.  Birks started producing sterling flatware for their own retail stores by 1897 and produced this pattern starting circa 1914, renamed “Gadroon”.  As this ladle has both D & H and Birks marks it is dated between 1892 and 1914.

The ladle is of a generous proportion, with a gold washed bowl and beautifully crested handle.

12 1/2” (31.7cm) long.

240.3 grams.

* The firm of Dominick & Haff was established in 1821 as William Gale & Son in New York, New York.  Through evolving partnerships the company became Dominick & Haff by 1872.  D & H was absorbed into Reed & Barton in 1928.
