Victorian Mother of Pearl Dessert Service For 18, Dated 1888

Product Details

Victorian sterling silver and mother-of-pearl dessert service for 18 in the original presentation box.  This special set is fully hallmarked for Sheffield 1888, made by John Sanderson of 34 & 36 Holly Street, Sheffield, England.  The set was retailed by Robert Stewart of Glasgow who had the appointment of goldsmith, jeweller and silversmith to Queen Victoria.

The fork tines and knife blades are all fully hallmarked and the mother-of-pearl handles are in excellent condition.  The original fitted box is in good condition and the inlaid brass shield on the cover was never engraved.  It is very unusual to find a set for 18.  With original key.

The forks are 6 1/2” (16.5cm) long.

The knives are 8” (20.3cm) long.

The box is 17 1/2” (44.5cm) by 9 1/2” (24.1cm), 2 1/2” (6.4cm) high.

$4595.
