Aesthetic Movement sterling silver christening cup, American, circa 1870-80.  The cup is beautifully detailed with floral sprays on either side of the central cartouche engraved:  “Willie”.  Look closely at the base to see the floral band on the flared foot.

The cup is marked on the bottom:  124 ENGLISH STERLING.  This would be a reference to it being sterling (925 Fine Silver) as opposed to coin silver (900 Fine Silver).  Coin was the accepted standard in the USA until the 1860s and marking it as “English sterling” is advertising that it is the “new improved” standard.
