Emile Puiforcat 950 Fine Silver Box, Made For Cartier

Product Details

French Art Deco 950 Fine Silver box, made by Emile Puiforcat for Cartier.  Puiforcat was established in 1820 in Paris.  The company was most known for bold geometric Art Deco designs in the 1920s and 30s, done under the directorship of Jean Puiforcat (1897-1945).

The box is identified on the bottom with the French silver mark of the God Mercury looking left with a number 1 at his chin, signifying that it is 950 Fine Silver and was made for export, above the Emile Puiforcat trademark; the letters  E P with a penknife in between, in a lozenge.  Identified near the edge of the base:  Cartier and Made in France.

The elegant cylindrical box has a band of ornamentation at the rim and a carved bakelite finial.

3” (7.2cm) high, 3 3/4” (9.5cm) high to the top of the finial,

4 1/8” (10.4cm) diameter.

292.8 grams.
