English Silver Plate Centrepiece Bowl

English silver plate centrepiece bowl, of classic Georgian proportions with graceful S scroll handles.  Trademarked for Harrison Brothers & Howson (H B & H) with one of their frequently used trademarks, ALPHA under a crown.  English, mid 20th century.

The heraldic crest is of a bull with a fleur-de-lis in a lozenge at his neck, rising from a crown with the motto “Dum Terar Prosum”, Latin for “As long as I am wearing myself out, I am useful”.  Variations on this crest were used by Charles Vincent Massey (1887-1967) the 18th Governor General of Canada (1952-59) the first Canadian born Governor General.  The emblems were originally recorded at the College of Arms, London England in 1927.
