Victorian blue and white transfer ware ironstone well and tree platter, J. Clementson “Hop Border” pattern, circa 1840-50. In excellent condition!
The platter also has an impressed mark J Clementson Shelton.
Joseph Clementson (1794-1871) apprenticed at J. & W. Ridgway in 1820, entered into partnership with Jonah Read 1832 at Phoenix Works, Shelton. The partnership ended in 1839 with Clementson continuing on his own. In 1867 he retired from the business in favour of his four sons and son-in-law who renamed the business Clementson Brothers.
