Pre-Revolution Russian Silver Asparagus Tongs

Product Details

Russian pre-revolution silver asparagus tongs, Fiddle pattern, made with a satin finish.  The tongs have the Russian silver mark for 84 Zolotniks, which is equivalent to 875 Fine Silver.  The depiction of the peasant woman looking left at the number 84 in an oval cartouche was used between 1896-1908.  PJS would be the maker’s mark, possibly Pekka Silventoinen, a Finnish silversmith working in St Petersburg circa 1886-1907.  The tongs have a monogram of a super imposed EK under a nine pointed coronet, which is the traditional symbol of a Count or Baron in many central European countries.

9 3/4” (24.7cm) long, 1 1/8” (2.9cm) wide.

226.5 grams.
