Victorian Arts & Crafts Hammered Silver Plate Sardine Box

Product Details

Victorian era, Arts & Crafts silver plate and cut glass sardine box.  Made by James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield, England, circa 1890-1900, marked with the distinctive trumpet and banner trademark of James Dixon, first used circa 1879/81.  The silver plate cover and base have a hammered finish and the cut glass box has a starburst pattern on the bottom.  The box has a very small chip on one corner.

Other 21st century used for this handsome box include a butter dish, candy box, jewel box, or for a desk or vanity table.

7 3/4” (19.7cm) by 6 1/2” (16.5cm) at the base, 2 3/4” (7cm) high.
